I sincerely hope this place will become a refuge for blogspotters. I'll be setting it up so that everyone hosting with Blog House will be listed on the front page. That should give everyone a bit of extra advertising. If you don't want to be listed, please let me know!
We have two types of accounts available.
The first account type I'll provide is for smaller bloggers who want off blogspot or some other free provider and don't want to get a domain name (for privacy or other reasons) and will be reasonably happy as yourownname.bloghouse.net.
The First type of account will start as the most inexpensive, at $4 per month, with no set-up fees. You will get 5 e-mail accounts, FTP access,cgi-bin, 75MB disk space and 2 gigs of bandwidth per month (since this is shared space, we'll keep an eye on the disk space and bandwidth for you).
For larger blogs who want anonymity, I can do a similar deal, price depending on how much space and bandwidth you will need. I'll be running spam spider blocks and such, so your bandwidth won't be as high as you think it will be! (My hits about halved when I started banning the things.) For those who do want domains, but are still smaller blogs, I can give you the same bandwidth (you'll also get the spam-spider blocks) and disk space, with your own c-panel (control your own site!), 2 mSQL databases, 2 subdomains, e-mail forwarding, autoresponders, your own cgi-bin and all the buzzes and whistles. For just $5. You'll have to get your own domain though. You might want to try GoDaddy.com — they offer domains for $8.95 per year! See the domain chart for more details on these plans.
Software: I'll install for you whatever blogging software you choose, if it is permitted (See disclaimer below) for no charge. You must; however, have your own copy of the software.
Installation Disclaimer I cannot install MT for you, although it may run here as long as no one associated with this site installs it. However, I can and will install any open source program that will run on this server and any other program whose license permits you have your host install it for you (as long as you get your own copy from the originator). If you don't know whether it's permitted, ask me, and I'll find out.
Need more bandwidth or disk space? $2.50 extra per month buys you another gig of bandwidth. Or you can buy another 50MB of disk space for $2.50. Special offer -- you can get both another 50 MB and and extra gig of bandwidth for only 3 dollars -- plus another database, more e-mail accounts, and so forth.
My own blog site, by the way, has never gone over 3 gig in one month, and only once over 2 gig (due to either a glitch in a spider or a troll attack), and I get quite a number of hits. I do keep my pages reasonably sized, which you should (pretty please) do anyway for the sake of people on dial-up. (I'm on dial-up now and some of you take 3 minutes to load!)
Please note: those who want anonymity because of bosses and such are welcome; those who want to start hate sites are not! Just so you know...
Also please note: At present, I can take money orders and Paypal only (I'd take checks but my bank takes forever to clear out of town checks — and the last time I asked them about out-of-country cheques, they told me that "of course we take Canadian checks". Oh?) . All amounts are in US dollars.
